In 1898, a
girl was found dead. A local dentist described the state of her
mouth and
teeth. A missing girl’s family dentist in another town was located.
The body was
disinterred and the dentist was able to identify his work. The
dentist
complained about how strenuously and thoroughly the defense attorney
grilled him
while he was on the witness stand.19 Many dentists still today
dread having
to go into courts of law and give sworn testimony.
